Broadband ADSL

What you need to get started

  • an ADSL connection
  • an ADSL modem
  • an ADSL subscription with polka

How to set up your computer for broadband ADSL

  1. Switch off your computer.
  2. Your ADSL modem probably came with two data cables: one for your phone line (thin) and one for your computer (slightly thicker - this could be either a USB or an Ethernet cable). Make sure that you have both cables handy.
  3. If your modem also came with a power cable, plug that in now. Do not switch on the power yet.
  4. Connect the phone-line cable to your phone jack and plug the other end into the phone-line port at the back of the modem.
  5. Connect the USB (or Ethernet) cable to a corresponding port at the back of your computer. Plug the other end of the cable into the corresponding port at the back of the modem.
